On October 27th, 2011, exercises of the National Fire Service of Lublin were held at the TEZET Liquid Gas Terminal in Brzeźno near Chełm.
The assumed goals of this exercise included the failure of a hose during the emptying of a tanker at the railway tanker unloading front. As a consequence of a failed shear joint at the tanker, the liquefied gas is suddenly released and instantly evaporates. Despite the attempt of the Terminal staff to close the manual valve, the leak is not contained. It is probable that the air-gas mixture may ignite, producing a hazard of a BLEVE (Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapour Explosion) and, as a consequence, a fire ball. There are two severely injured workers in the area of the unloading site. The storage of adjacent tankers is exposed. The fire front may reach the limits of the facility and release a critical amount of the combustible material. The range of specific factors will cover the premises and the adjacent area.
TEZET has been participating in the exercises held at the Terminal for years. Regular emergency exercises enhance the comfort and the safety of the staff and our customers who use the Terminal on site.
