What are “cookies”?
Cookie files are IT data, in particularly text files, which are stored on the users’ terminal equipment, and are intended for using websites. These files allow the user to identify the device and properly display a web page tailored to their individual preferences. Cookies usually contain the name of the website from which they originate, their storage time on the end user device, as well as a unique number.
Why do we use cookies?
Cookies are used to adapt the Web content to the user’s preferences and optimising the use of websites. Cookie files are also used to create anonymous aggregated statistics, which help to understand how a user uses websites. This allows to improve the website structure and content, excluding the user identification.
What types of cookies do we use?
There are two types of cookies: “session” and “permanent”. The first ones are temporary files that remain on the user’s device until the user logs out of the website or turns off the software (a web browser). “Permanent” files remain on the user’s device for the time specified in the cookie file parameters or until they are manually deleted by the user.
Cookies used by the partners of the website’s operator, including in particular the users of the website, are subject to their own privacy policy.
Do cookies contain personal data?
Personal data collected by means of cookie files may be collected solely to perform certain functions for the user. Such data is encrypted in a manner which prevents unauthorised persons from accessing it.
Deleting cookies
In principle, the software used for browsing websites allows cookies to be placed on the user’s end device by default. In particular, these settings can be changed in such a way as to block the automatic handling of cookies in the web browser settings or to inform the user whenever cookies are placed on the user’s device. Restricting cookies can affect some functions available on the website.
